Hi raven, I see you've been informed about the benefits of wind energy by an environmental organization. Greenpeace and others are fond of the "more investment, more employment" argument. I would actually agree with that statement, myself... you do realize, though, that this argument is just a nicer way to say "costs much more, very labour intensive", right? Also, while I don't have figures for waste from wind energy, it would be interesting to see what the construction waste (and decommissioning waste) -- from 4,444 windmills on 65,000 hectares -- would actually be.

Just like your other articles, this is fantastic. I agree with Bill, wind just isn't efficient enough. A few scattered windmills are a nice way to put more power in the grid, but I just don't think it's that great to have windmill farms. Something that has not been talked about is solar plants. I think solar, although it may take up much more space than nuclear is cleaner, with no chance for accidents, and it requires little upkeep. Solar is also more reliable than wind, because there is more power. Even on dark cloudy days, 50% of sunlight still makes it to the solar panels. So, unlike with wind where you could potentially have 0 power output, the only time solar will not be producing is at night, when little power is needed anyway.

According to the specifics you state a similar capacity of Nuclear would cost $25B more than the wind option how is that better?

Nuclear waste shelf life is 65000 years. Plus Vestas V-80 at only 2 mw suck. What you need is the new 5 and 7 MW turbines in mass quantity as in the range of 50,000 units through out the wind corridors in the prairies. Place the units very close to rail lines to allow for cheeper delivery of the turbines. The cost.....who cares! How much are Canadians already spending on energy? We have the land, we have the logistics and more natural resources then any country in the world. The answer is easy.
