| John, FMEA and barrier analysis are complementary processes. FMEA is better suited for up-front design, as it is focused on determining the need for countermeasures against postulated failures. Barrier analysis is better suited for post-event analysis, as it is focused on evaluating why countermeasures failed (or were missing) relative to a specific failure that actually occurred. |
